This week we started working specifically on the various types of word problems outlined in Appendix A of the new standards.  Wow!  Kids are so smart.  It is so amazing how they can figure things out when we allow them the opportunity.  Don't be afraid to just use the examples given and go with it.  Let them just try to solve it and share strategies to wrap up the lesson.  I will add some examples later this week to show what my smart kiddos can do.
